Manipur: EEVFAM Observes 16th Foundation Day, Renews Call For Justice In Extrajudicial Killings

The Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM), today observed its 16th Foundation Day at Lamyamba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal, under the theme “Respect the Rights of the Victims.” The event paid tribute to individuals allegedly killed in fake encounters and reaffirmed the organisation’s unwavering commitment to justice and accountability.

Marking the occasion, a book titled “United Nations Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement” was released. The publication was a collaborative effort by Human Rights Alert (HRA), Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC), and Youth Collective Manipur (YCM), and focuses on the challenges faced by displaced persons and the international legal framework designed to protect them.

Kanjam Khagendra Singh, Member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC), graced the event as Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by prominent figures including Anandi Khangembam, Advisor of AMKIL; Dr. Noni Arambam, Associate Professor at DM University; Dr. Sapam Dilip, Assistant Professor at Manipur University; and Ningthoukhongjam Subhaschandra, legal counsel for EEVFAM.

The gathering featured powerful testimonies and insights from youth leaders and civil society members. Aheibam Chanthoi Chanu, Coordinator of Youth Collective Manipur; Md. Islahuddin, Executive Member of People’s Progressive Alliance; and Naorem Rojita Leima, an internally displaced Meitei woman, spoke on themes of trauma, displacement, and the persistent struggle for justice.

Renu Takhellambam, President of EEVFAM, who presided over the programme, reiterated the association’s commitment to seeking justice for victims of state violence and fostering institutional accountability. She emphasized society’s moral obligation to uphold the dignity of victims and prevent future violations.
