Manipur: Expired Food Items Seized And Destroyed In Tamenglong; Officials Warn Of Health Hazards

A large quantity of expired food and other products were found being sold in various shops around Tamenglong District Headquarters during a surprise inspection drive carried out on June 4, 2025, by officials of the Small-Town Committee (STC) under the Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong.

The expired goods were seized and subsequently destroyed on June 5 in the presence of Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei, Chief Executive Officer of ADC Tamenglong, and Ninthungpou R. Panmei, Executive Officer of STC, ADC Tamenglong.

Speaking at the disposal site, CEO Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei expressed deep concern over the serious health risks posed by the consumption of expired products, particularly for children and the general public. He also encouraged STC officials to conduct such inspection drives regularly to safeguard public health.

The STC, ADC Tamenglong, also issued an appeal to the public to remain vigilant and always check the expiry dates before purchasing any items.
