Security forces have arrested five militants belonging to three proscribed outfits involved in extortion activities during separate operations in Imphal East and Thoubal districts, police said on Monday.

On Sunday (July 27, 2025), three active cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba City Meitei) were apprehended from Imphal East. Two of them were caught at Huidrom village while en route to a brick kiln to collect extortion money. Based on their disclosure, another cadre was arrested from Kairang Maning Leikai.

In a separate operation in Thoubal district, an active member of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA) was also arrested.

Additionally, security forces arrested a cadre of the KCP (MFL) from his residence in Eshingthembi Mapan, Imphal East.

All the arrested individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation, police said.
