Flash floods triggered by overflowing rivers and multiple embankment breaches have affected at least 56,516 people across Manipur, with Imphal East district bearing the brunt, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.

The floods have damaged 10,477 houses and impacted 174 localities across the state. Authorities have evacuated 2,913 people from affected areas and set up 57 relief camps, the majority of which are located in Imphal East.

One person remains missing after being swept away by strong river currents in Imphal East on Monday. A fresh embankment breach was reported in Bashikhong after the Kongba River overflowed, worsening the flood situation.

In addition to the flooding, the state has witnessed 93 landslides over the past five days, compounding the damage and hampering relief efforts. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
