In an effort to clear backlogs and ensure timely pension disbursal for retired government employees, the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, today.

The meeting discussed key agendas including sanctioning and payment of pensions, challenges in processing, causes of delays, and measures to streamline the overall system. The Chief Secretary, Secretary to the Governor, and senior officers from the Treasury, AG Office, and Pension Cell were among those present.

During the review, the Governor emphasized the need for efficiency and directed officials to clear pending cases at the earliest. A major highlight of the meeting was the upcoming launch of an Online Pension Processing System, aimed at digitizing the existing manual process.

Neilenthang Telien, Special Secretary (Finance), presented details of the new system, which will enable end-to-end digital processing — from Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDO) to the AG Office and Treasury — with all documents digitally signed. Employees and departments will also be able to track applications, while pension processing will begin one year prior to an employee’s retirement using the Employee Identification Number (EIN).

The Governor noted that this initiative is part of a series of welfare measures introduced for government employees since the imposition of President’s Rule earlier this year.
