Torrential rains have caused widespread flooding in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, with many areas submerged and over 100 houses inundated.
The downpour, which began on Tuesday afternoon and continued through the night into Wednesday, left major areas including Tedim Road and Tuibong Market under water. The Lanva River overflowed its banks, flooding several villages between Pearsonmun and Mualkoi.
Meanwhile, waters from the swollen Tuitha River inundated at least 115 houses across Neihsial Veng, Kerith, Zoumunnuam, PCI Colony, New Zouveng, and Nazareth. Affected residents have taken shelter in nearby community centres.
Officials noted that the water level of the Tuitha River has reached the suspension bridge at Zoumunnuam village, raising concerns of further flooding if rains persist. More details awaited.
