Torrential rains that lashed Noney district last night severely disrupted normal life, causing widespread flooding, landslides, and infrastructural damage.

In Khoupum Valley, freshly cultivated paddy fields were inundated, with over 30 hectares of crops reportedly destroyed. Several houses in the Khoupum Dam area were damaged by flash floods, and domestic animals perished in the calamity. Landslides were reported at multiple locations, damaging electric poles and resulting in power outages across affected areas. Inter-village connectivity was also disrupted as small suspension bridges and culverts were swept away by gushing waters.

A particularly severe flood incident occurred along the banks of the Leimatak River, where overflowing waters inundated low-lying areas and submerged vast tracts of agricultural land.

Meanwhile, National Highway-37 (Imphal–Jiribam Road), a critical lifeline of Manipur, has been cut off due to massive landslides and mudslides between Luangchum and Rangkhung villages in Noney district. The affected stretch has left many vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.

The road construction company, ABCI, has deployed excavators and mud dumper trucks to clear the debris. According to local sources, the restoration work may take several hours before traffic movement can resume.
