The Kangpokpi District Administration, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Society for Advancing Social Progress.”
Lamminlal Simte, MCS, In-charge District Social Welfare Officer, appreciated Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, for organising the event and dedicating it to persons with disabilities in the district. He emphasised the programme’s aim to build confidence, provide support, uphold dignity, and promote understanding of disability-related issues, ensuring that persons with disabilities are recognised as equal members of society.
Simte also highlighted various Central and State Government schemes available for persons with disabilities, including scholarships, caregiver cards, livelihood support, and welfare initiatives. He added that required data would soon be submitted to the CMO and expressed readiness to work jointly with the District Administration to strengthen medical assistance.
Participants with disabilities expressed gratitude to the district authorities for acknowledging their needs and extending support through various schemes. They also shared ongoing challenges, such as pending form submissions and unprocessed assistance requests.
As part of the programme, the District Administration and District Social Welfare Office distributed blankets and essential items to 10 persons with disabilities, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, reaffirming the district’s commitment to their welfare.
The event was attended by Lamminlal Simte, AC to DC, SDO-Champhai (In-charge District Social Welfare), SDOs, CMO, ICDS officials, DLOs, and family members of persons with disabilities, among others.
