In a decisive step to curb illegal constructions and rampant encroachments along National Highway-2, Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, has ordered strict action against all unauthorized structures within the district’s jurisdiction.
Under the DC’s leadership, a joint inspection drive was launched today involving the ADM, SDO, SDC, officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), SH-ADC staff, and the state police. The team inspected areas including Kangpokpi town, T. Khullen, Yaikongpao, and Daili, identifying illegal extensions, shops, accommodations, and tin sheds erected without proper approvals.
The District Administration has set September 3 as the deadline for owners to voluntarily dismantle such structures. Failing this, eviction, demolition, and removal will be carried out by the Administration at the owners’ cost.
The directive follows reports from NHIDCL officials highlighting unauthorized occupancy along NH-2 through unapproved constructions. Earlier, the Administration had issued a notice on August 13 warning of an impending eviction drive.
Officials stressed that the move aims to ensure public safety and convenience, while urging residents to cooperate with the eviction drive to avoid inconvenience.
Today’s inspection was carried out in the presence of N. Shokngam Baite, ADM (MCS); James Doujapao, MCS (SH-ADC); Lamminlal Simte, MCS (SDO Champhai); SDC, NHIDCL officials, and state police personnel.
