The women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel, popularly known as the Keithel Imas, have strongly condemned what they allege to be a hidden agenda by the Governor of Manipur aimed at dividing the state.

Their sharp reaction comes in the wake of a controversial incident involving a media team that was traveling in a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus to cover the state-sponsored Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul. According to reports, the team was halted by security forces at the Gwaltabi checkpoint in Imphal East district.

The Keithel Ima leaders condemned the actions of the personnel—allegedly from the Mahar Regiment—who reportedly instructed the journalists to conceal the words “Manipur State Transport” printed on the bus. The bus had been officially arranged by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR). The directive caused confusion and delays, ultimately forcing the media team to abandon their assignment and return to Imphal after unsuccessful negotiations.

Terming the incident as a serious affront to Manipur’s administrative integrity, the Keithel Imas demanded immediate accountability. They questioned whether such instructions were issued with the knowledge or approval of higher authorities and called for swift disciplinary action against those involved.

The women leaders expressed concern that such interference by central forces during a state-sponsored event signals a deeper disregard for Manipur’s statehood and democratic framework. They reiterated that any attempt—covert or overt—to undermine the state’s territorial integrity will be firmly opposed.

Furthermore, the Keithel Imas asserted that the media must be allowed to operate freely and without intimidation, especially when covering government-sanctioned events.
