Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has announced that the long-awaited Marjing Hill Cable Car Project is nearing completion and is ready for commissioning.

In a social media post, Biren Singh described the project as one of his long-cherished dreams. The cable car facility will provide seamless access to the 122-foot Marjing Polo Statue atop Marjing Hill, erected in honour of Ibudhou Marjing, revered as the divine giver of Sagol Kangjei — the traditional game that later evolved into modern-day polo.

He said the completion of the project, with the continued support of the people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a proud moment for the state and is expected to significantly boost tourism while strengthening Manipur’s identity as a land of cultural pride and natural beauty.
