A massive landslide and sinking of land spanning over 100 metres occurred near Khongsang Railway Station along National Highway-37 (Imphal–Jiribam Road) under Noney District, disrupting traffic on Manipur’s lifeline road.
With concerted efforts by the ABCI construction company, which deployed two excavators, movement for light vehicles and empty trucks resumed at around 10:40 am today. However, heavy loaded trucks remain restricted until road widening work is completed.
According to the Public Relations Officer of ABCI, if weather conditions remain favourable, loaded trucks may also be allowed to pass through the landslide-hit area by this evening.
Meanwhile, many loaded trucks are still stranded on both sides of the highway, awaiting safe passage. Notably, although the area did not witness rainfall last night, the sinking and landslides occurred due to the unstable and loose soil condition.
