Member of Parliament Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has pledged to raise critical issues affecting Manipur—including the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the existence of buffer zones, and failures in governance—during the upcoming session of Parliament.

Addressing media persons at his residence in Keishamthong on Wednesday, Dr. Bimol called for public inputs on pressing concerns that deserve national attention. He specifically highlighted four key issues: the resettlement and dignity of IDPs, ambiguity surrounding the buffer zone policy, and governance shortcomings.

Dr. Bimol expressed concern over the Manipur government’s plan to close relief camps by December 2025, questioning the transparency of the resettlement process. “Many displaced people from Moreh and Churachandpur are being shifted to temporary shelters, but the government has not clarified how many structures will be built or if they will be adequate,” he said.

Having visited several camps, the MP described the ongoing challenges IDPs face, including poor access to education, healthcare, and the lack of permanent rehabilitation. “It’s been two years. These families continue to live in uncertainty. I will raise these issues in Parliament to ensure justice and dignity for them,” he asserted.

On the issue of buffer zones, Dr. Bimol alleged that restrictions persist despite official denials. “I was recently denied entry into an area within my own constituency. This violates Article 15 of the Constitution and reflects a troubling communal divide masked as peacekeeping,” he stated.

He also criticised administrative failures witnessed during DISHA meetings and promised to bring these lapses to Parliament’s attention. “Whether through debates or speeches, I will speak up. I also urge the public to share their concerns so I can represent them more effectively,” he added.
