The All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) celebrated its 50th Foundation Day today at the Iroisemba Community Hall in Imphal West, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to social reform and the fight against drug abuse.

The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Nupi Samaj President Thokchom Ongbi Ramani Devi; Lourembam Nganbi Devi of Apunba Manipur Kanba Lup (AMKIL); Yambem Ongbi Momon Leima, President of All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup; Soujam Ibemnungshi Leima, President of Iroishemba Lourembam Leikai Nishabandh Association; and YK Dhiren, President of the United Committee Manipur (UCM).

Speaking at the ceremony, Ramani Devi recounted Nupi Samaj’s five-decade journey in addressing social issues, particularly the growing drug problem in the state. She said it was the alarming rise in drug abuse that compelled women to unite and lead a movement for reform.

She also recalled the rise of the Meira Paibi movement, born out of the community’s resistance to arbitrary detention and excesses by security forces. Ramani Devi noted that the courage of women during those turbulent times laid the foundation for a strong, grassroots resistance against injustice and social decay.
