The District Health Society, Pherzawl, today observed World Hypertension Day at PMS Jr High School, aiming to raise awareness about the silent health threat posed by high blood pressure. The event was graced by Mannuamching, Deputy Commissioner, as the Chief Guest, with T. Lalboi Haokip, Superintendent of Police, and Joel G. Haokip attending as Guests of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching underlined the key causes of hypertension, advocating for healthier diets and active lifestyles. She urged the public to adopt regular physical exercise as a preventive measure and announced that a district-wide hypertension screening campaign will continue until June 16. She also directed health officials and workers to ensure the campaign is implemented effectively to achieve maximum outreach.
The observance featured a Walkathon led by the Deputy Commissioner, joined by district officials, police personnel, and health department staff, emphasizing the day’s message of active living.
Participants also included Zenngaihlun, District Program Manager, Pherzawl; N. Vashti, DI Tipaimukh; students and teachers from PMS Jr High School and Pherzawl Govt High School.
In a separate programme, the Zonal Education Office, Pherzawl, organized a Felicitation Ceremony at Parbung Higher Secondary School to honour students for their academic achievements. Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, also the Chief Guest at the event, presented awards to 28 meritorious students from government schools across the district who successfully cleared the HSLC Examination 2025.
