Manipur Police arrested a 29-year-old man and seized a significant quantity of heroin in a targeted operation carried out on December 24 in Imphal East district, as part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics.

The accused, Md. Mustakim (29) of Sangaiyumpham Pt-1, was arrested from Mantripukhri under Heingang Police Station. Police recovered 24 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing around 310 grams from his possession. A Maruti Swift car bearing registration number AS-01-BE-7900, allegedly used for transporting the contraband, was also seized.

Police said the arrest was made based on specific intelligence inputs, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify possible interstate links.

Earlier the same day, security forces made another major recovery when a 29-year-old man, Ilaj Ali Laskar of Lalpani, was arrested from the Chandrapur area under Jiribam Police Station limits. Authorities recovered about 1.6 lakh psychotropic tablets marked “WY/R”, weighing approximately 18.6 kg, along with a truck bearing registration number AS24 AC-3721, allegedly used to transport the consignment.

Police officials said the twin seizures underscore sustained enforcement efforts against drug trafficking networks operating across Manipur and neighbouring Assam, adding that more arrests are likely as investigations progress.
