In a concerted crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police carried out two major anti-insurgency operations across the state on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of a militant operative and the recovery of a large cache of arms and equipment.

In the first operation, police forces apprehended Nongmaithem Naocha Meetei, a 26-year-old member of the banned outfit PREPAK (PRO), from Napet Palli under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district. Naocha, a resident of Yaingangpokpi Makha Leikai, had been functioning as an active cadre of the proscribed group.

In a parallel operation in Jiribam district, security forces unearthed a substantial arms cache from the Rashidpur area under Jiribam police station. The haul included a 7.62mm Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), a 5.56mm INSAS rifle, two pistols, and 41 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The seizure also comprised six handheld radio sets with a charger, two rifle magazines, an ammunition pouch, and two pairs of jungle shoes—pointing to the militants’ preparedness for prolonged operations in hostile terrain.

Police said the successful operations reflect intensified counter-insurgency efforts aimed at curbing militant movements and dismantling their operational networks in the state.
