Manipur Police Seize Heroin, Brown Sugar; Seven Arrested In Multi-District Operations

Manipur Police seized approximately 600 grams of heroin and brown sugar in a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations conducted across four districts between January 19 and 21, arresting seven suspected drug smugglers.

The largest seizure was made on Wednesday when police apprehended two residents of Chandel district at Pallel Makha Leikai Pathabi along Pallel IVR Road in Kakching district. The accused were identified as Veronica Moyon (28) of Thangkin village and Chihanring Shinglai (32) of Thotchanram village.

Police recovered 25 soap cases containing about 299 grams of heroin No. 4 powder from their possession, along with a two-wheeler and two mobile phones.

In another operation on the same day, security forces arrested Avio S of Katafimai village at the Tadubi police station checkpoint along National Highway-2 in Senapati district. Twenty soap cases of brown sugar were seized from his white Bolero vehicle, besides a mobile phone and identification documents.

Earlier, on January 19, security forces detained Letkhothang Haokip (30) and Robert Lunminthang Haokip (20) at Mombi in Chandel district. From them, police recovered 22 soap cases containing approximately 300 grams of brown sugar, cash amounting to Rs 2,800, two mobile phones with three SIM cards, two debit cards and a Kenbo motorbike.

Meanwhile, in a separate enforcement drive against illegal tobacco products, police on January 20 detained Khomdram Bikramjit Singh (29) and Shagolshem Sanjoy Singh (33) at Sekmaijing Bridge in Kakching district. A total of 112 packets of Royal Chewing Tobacco and 98 packets of Dilbag Talap Pan Masala were seized from their Tata vehicle.

As part of intensified anti-narcotics efforts, security forces, in coordination with the Forest Department, Narcotics and Affairs of Border and an executive magistrate, destroyed approximately 15 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at the G. Monglian hill range in Churachandpur district on Tuesday. Two huts found at the cultivation site were also burnt down. Sangaikot police have registered a case and further legal proceedings are underway.
