Manipur Police arrested a 29-year-old man and seized a substantial quantity of heroin in a targeted anti-narcotics operation in Imphal East district on December 24, highlighting the state’s intensified crackdown on drug trafficking.

The accused, identified as Md. Mustakim of Sangaiyumpham Part-I, was apprehended from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police recovered 24 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 weighing approximately 310 grams from his possession. A Maruti Swift car bearing registration number AS-01-BE-7900, allegedly used in the operation, was also seized.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify possible links beyond the district.

In a separate operation earlier the same day, security forces arrested another 29-year-old man, Ilaj Ali Laskar of Lalpani, from the Chandrapur area under Jiribam Police Station limits. During the operation, authorities recovered around 1.6 lakh psychotropic tablets engraved with “WY/R,” weighing about 18.6 kg.

A truck bearing registration number AS-24-AC-3721, allegedly used to transport the consignment, was also seized.

Police said the twin seizures reflect sustained enforcement pressure on drug trafficking routes operating across Manipur and neighbouring Assam, adding that more arrests are likely as investigations progress.
