The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Hijam Ibemcha, a 52-year-old patient who passed away on August 19 while being prepared for surgery.

According to RIMS, Ibemcha was admitted on August 14 with a right leg fracture sustained from an accidental fall a day earlier. She was scheduled to undergo open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plating under regional/spinal anesthesia when she suddenly developed cardiorespiratory failure. Despite the medical team’s resuscitation efforts, she could not be revived.

RIMS authorities have initiated an internal enquiry into the incident, stating that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination.

The institute conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and assured full cooperation with all ongoing and future investigations by the competent authorities.
