The RIMS Nurses Association of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, marked International Nurses Day 2025 with a solemn and inspiring event held at Jubilee Hall, RIMS. The program was organized under the global theme, “Our Nurses, Our Future – Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies,” which emphasizes the essential role of nurses in healthcare and their contribution to economic sustainability.
The commemorative function was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, as Chief Guest. Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, served as Guest of Honour, while RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Administration), presided over the function. Also in attendance were Sairem Sarat Singh, Chief Accounts Officer, and Ningombam Ibemhal, Chief Nursing Officer (i/c), RIMS.
In his address, Prof. Sharma lauded the nursing community as the backbone of healthcare and expressed deep appreciation for their selfless service. He stressed that this year’s theme recognizes nurses as not just caregivers but also educators and leaders vital to resilient health systems. Recalling the unwavering dedication of RIMS nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and in rural outreach efforts, he called for robust policies to enhance nursing education, equitable pay, and career growth opportunities.
The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, honoring her lasting legacy. Attended by nursing professionals, faculty, students, and dignitaries from across the institute, the celebration featured cultural performances and recognition of outstanding nursing contributions.
The program highlighted the pivotal role of nurses in transforming healthcare delivery and strengthening both health systems and national economies.
