The Manipur unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday observed “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas – 50 Years of Emergency” at Thambal Shanglen in Imphal West, commemorating the imposition of Emergency in 1975 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The event was attended by Manipur BJP President A. Sarda Devi, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, MLAs, and several BJP members.

Marking the occasion, former CM N. Biren Singh took to social media platform X and stated, “As we remember the dark days of the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975, let us take a firm pledge to safeguard our Constitution and ensure that democracy thrives, while never allowing such a tragedy to take place in our nation again.”
