Security forces in Kangpokpi district carried out major anti-poppy operations on December 1, destroying a total of 54 acres of illegal poppy plantations across multiple locations.

In the first operation, conducted between Khoiripok and Sehjang villages under New Keithelmanbi Police Station, security personnel uprooted 18 acres of poppy fields. Five huts used for cultivation activities were also demolished. Items recovered from the site included a bag of fertiliser, spray pumps, and various chemicals and herbicides, all of which were subsequently removed.

In a parallel action on the same day, security forces and Forest Department officials launched a joint operation in the hill ranges of C. Lamjang and surrounding areas under Kangpokpi Police Station. This effort resulted in the destruction of 36 acres of poppy cultivation. Authorities also dismantled eleven huts and seized fourteen bags of fertiliser and nine bags of salt believed to be used in the cultivation process.

Both sites showed signs of organised cultivation supported by makeshift huts and agricultural inputs. Officials emphasised that the destruction of these materials forms part of ongoing measures to curb illegal poppy production in the district.

No arrests or details of further investigations have been disclosed so far. The December 1 operations underline the government’s continued commitment to combating illicit poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi district.
