Manipur: Security Forces Destroy Over 95 Acres Of Poppy Cultivation In Chandel And Senapati

A combined team of security forces and the Forest Department on January 13, 2026, destroyed approximately 65 acres of illicit poppy cultivation at the Govok hill range under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district.

During the operation, two temporary huts, along with poppy pods, poppy seeds and other materials found at the site, were also destroyed.

In a separate operation on the same day, another joint team comprising security forces, the Forest Department and an Executive Magistrate eradicated around 30 acres of poppy fields at the Sadim hills range under Senapati Police Station in Senapati district.

The coordinated actions form part of the ongoing drive to curb illegal poppy cultivation and related activities in the hill districts of Manipur.
