Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the CRPF and Manipur Police, destroyed around 25 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Loibol Khullen area of Kangpokpi district on Sunday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces launched the operation in the early hours, conducting extensive area domination and searches across suspected locations. The team uncovered and destroyed poppy fields capable of yielding over 170 kg of opium worth several crores, delivering a major setback to drug networks operating in the region.

The operation, carried out in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions, underscores the continued efforts of Assam Rifles to curb illegal narcotics cultivation and disrupt financial channels that support insurgency and other unlawful activities.

The force stated that the successful mission reinforces its commitment to building a drug-free Northeast and promoting long-term peace, stability and socio-economic development in the region.
