Manipur: Security Forces Seize Drugs; Recover Arms In Separate Operations

Security forces arrested a 26-year-old man identified as Makakmayum Firdos Sharif, a resident of Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai in Imphal East district, at the T. Khullen Naka checkpoint in Senapati district. During the operation, officials seized 29,974 suspected WY tablets packed in 150 packets, estimated to be worth approximately ₹24 lakh. Along with the drugs, a four-wheeler (Hyundai i20) with keys and registration certificate, an iPhone, an Aadhaar card, and a voter card were also recovered from his possession.

In a separate operation on Wednesday, security personnel apprehended a juvenile who was reportedly an active cadre of the proscribed outfit RPF/PLA from Khongjom Papal area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. The juvenile was allegedly involved in extortion activities, serving monetary demands, and recruiting new members from Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. A mobile phone with a SIM card was seized from him. Authorities confirmed that the minor was dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Meanwhile, search and area domination operations continue across fringe and vulnerable areas of the state. During one such operation, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from an isolated stretch between Leingangpokpi village in Jiribam district and Tatbung village in Tamenglong district.

The seized items include one SLR with a magazine, one .303 rifle with a magazine, five SBBL rifles, 39 live rounds of .303 ammunition, 15 live SLR rounds, 35 .303 cartridges, 57 empty SLR cases, 76 rubber bullets, a walkie-talkie, two bulletproof jackets, one headgear, and a magazine pouch.
