Manipur: Six Arrested In Separate Drug Hauls; 25 Acres Of Illicit Poppy Destroyed

Security forces and Manipur Police carried out a series of anti-drug operations on March 9 and 10, leading to multiple arrests, seizure of contraband substances and destruction of illicit poppy cultivation in different parts of the state.

On March 9, security forces arrested three residents of Moijing village near the Thoubal district Police Headquarters under Thoubal Police Station.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Amar Shah (30) alias Amar, Md. Inni (36) alias Jalal and Md. Yakin Ahamed (26). During the operation, approximately 5.7 kg of brown sugar was seized from their possession along with two four-wheelers, four mobile phones, a PAN card, a driving licence, an RC card and an Aadhaar card.

In another operation on the same day, Manipur Police arrested three residents of Imphal East district from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station. The arrested persons were identified as Aribam Mansish (24) of Kshetrigao Awang Leikai, Shajabam Aslam Khan (32) of Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai and Dinesh Chingakham (24) of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai. Police recovered approximately 16.60 kg of ganja and one four-wheeler from their possession.

Meanwhile, on March 10, security forces in coordination with the Forest Department destroyed around 25 acres of illicit poppy plantation at Sinakeithei under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug cultivation in the state.
