Security forces detained six members of banned insurgent groups during a series of coordinated operations conducted on October 26 across Thoubal, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts, seizing weapons, extortion materials, and communication devices.
In Thoubal district, authorities apprehended Bhramhacharimayum Ratankumar Sharma, 43, also known as Mangal, an active member of the RPF/PLA, from his residence at Heirok Part-II, Khangarok. During the arrest, officers recovered two mobile phones and two SIM cards.
In a separate operation in Wangjing, also in Thoubal district, security forces detained Haobijam Thoibi Devi, 35, known as Chanu, identified as an active woman cadre of the KCP (PWG). Police said she was involved in extortion activities in the district. A search of her residence led to the seizure of 59 demand letters, two seals, two stamp pads, a mobile phone with SIM card, and several incriminating documents.
In Imphal West district, security personnel arrested two members of the PREPAK from Thongkhong Luxmi Bazar. The suspects, Longjam Yaiphaba Angom, 30, also called Nanao, and Oinam Henba Singh, 37, were allegedly involved in extorting money and issuing threats to government officials, doctors, college staff, and civilians in valley areas. Officers also seized a white Hyundai Verna, two mobile phones, and one Aadhaar card.
Meanwhile, in Kakching district, Manipur Police detained two suspected members of the KCP (MFL) from the Hiyanglam Terapishak Sekmaijin area. The arrested individuals, Elangbam Lamyanba Meitei, 29, known as Abungcha, and Laishram Indrakumar Singh, 25, were allegedly involved in extortion activities. Police recovered two mobile phones and one Aadhaar card from their possession.
Officials said all six individuals have been taken into custody for further interrogation, and investigations are underway to trace their links with other members of the banned organisations.
