The Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) Awards for 2023 and 2024 were presented at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Akademi, celebrating Manipur’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
A total of 69 eminent artistes and cultural practitioners received honours across various categories, including the MSKA Lifetime Achievement Award, Fellowships, and awards in Dance, Music, Shumang Leela, Thang-Ta, Tribal Culture, Literature, as well as the Young Talent and Young Writer Awards.
Noted painter-sculptor Thoidingjam Tombi Singh was conferred the prestigious MSKA Lifetime Achievement Award, alongside other distinguished awardees recognised for their significant contributions to Manipur’s arts and culture.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said the awards celebrate both individual artistry and the collective cultural legacy of the State. He praised the awardees for upholding Manipur’s artistic excellence—reflected in traditions such as classical Raas, Lai Haraoba, and the diverse folk and musical heritage of both hill and valley communities. These expressions, he noted, embody the State’s identity and continue to garner global admiration.
The Governor also underscored the vital role of the Manipur State Kala Akademi, established in 1972, noting that its fellowships and awards represent the highest State-level recognition for artistes, writers, and practitioners of fine arts. He added that under his stewardship, the two-year backlog of awards had been cleared, ensuring overdue recognition for all deserving artistes.
The ceremony featured a captivating solo dance performance by a Young Talent Awardee, adding vibrancy to the occasion. The event was attended by art enthusiasts, noted cultural figures, and senior government officials.
