Following a similar move by Nagaland, the Manipur government has issued a fresh advisory to tighten security along international, inter-state, and inter-district borders amid fears of possible infiltration due to ongoing unrest in neighbouring countries.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to establish a robust mechanism to prevent any illegal entry into the state.
“In view of apprehension of influx of illegal immigrants into the state, especially due to the turmoil situation in neighbouring countries, all DCs and SPs shall ensure utmost vigil at international, inter-state, and inter-district boundaries,” the statement said.
The advisory further instructed that any illegal movement detected must be immediately reported, and both biographic and biometric details of the individuals concerned must be recorded.
Authorities have been directed to confine illegal entrants to “secured designated locations” where they may receive humanitarian aid, but without being allowed to mingle or integrate with the local population. “All such illegal migrants shall be deported after following due procedures,” it added.
The directive also mandates the formation of district-level committees, comprising district police personnel, to monitor suspected locations and conduct regular reviews. Deputy Commissioners have also been tasked with monitoring exit and entry points under the border pass system.
The move comes even as neighbouring Assam continues eviction drives along its borders.
