The District Magistrate of Tamenglong, Dr. L. Angshim Dangshawa, IAS, has imposed a total ban on the hunting, catching, killing, and selling of Amur Falcons (Falco amurensis) across Tamenglong District and its adjoining areas with immediate effect.
The order follows a request from the Divisional Forest Officer, Tamenglong Forest Division, to ensure the protection and conservation of the migratory bird species during their seasonal arrival in the district.
Hunting, killing, or possession of Amur Falcons is a punishable offence under Sections 50 and 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
As the migratory birds usually arrive from the first to second week of October and stay until the end of November, the District Magistrate has also directed that all air guns in the district be deposited with respective Village Authorities for safe custody until November 30, 2025, or until the birds leave their roosting sites.
