Manipur Police and security forces have intensified intelligence-based combing operations and cordon and search operations across the state to crack down on extortion activities. As a result, three active cadres affiliated with banned militant groups were arrested in separate operations over the past two days.

On May 25, 2025, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), identified as Wahengbam Isriel Singh alias Chalamba (47), was arrested from Patsoi Part-I village under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West District. Singh, a resident of Patsoi-I, was reportedly directly involved in extortion. Police seized two mobile handsets and SIM cards from his possession.

In another operation conducted on May 24, 2025, Manipur Police apprehended a member of the United National Liberation Front (P), Nambram Amujao Singh alias Lanngakpa (25), from Moirang Sendra Road near the Koireng statue under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur District. Singh, originally from Churachandpur District and currently residing at the Moirang College Relief Camp, had been extorting money from the general public, local businesses, and government institutions in Bishnupur and Imphal areas. One mobile handset and SIM card were recovered from him.

Also on May 24, an active member of KCP (Taibangnganba), Md. Sadam (31), from Kwakta Khuman, Ward No. 8, Bishnupur District, was detained in the Yaingangpokpi area of Imphal East. He was later arrested under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal District. Authorities allege he was extorting money from parents by promising illegal admissions to schools and colleges in the valley region. Items seized from his possession included two mobile phones, two SIM cards, a PAN card, Aadhaar card, voter ID, ATM card, and a vehicle registration card.

Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance across Manipur to root out insurgent networks involved in criminal activities.
