Manipur Police arrested two individuals in separate anti-narcotics operations in Jiribam and Imphal West districts, seizing over 15 kilograms of suspected narcotics, including brown sugar, heroin, and other psychotropic substances.
In the first operation, security forces apprehended Mihir Roy, 26, of Kanakpur Part-II, Rangirkhari, Silchar (Assam) during a random frisking and checking drive of passenger engine boats along the Barak River between Savomphai and Chaudharykhal villages under Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam district. From his possession, police recovered three gunny bags containing 616 soap cases suspected to contain brown sugar, weighing approximately 10.096 kg, and five packets containing 250 pouches filled with tablets of suspected narcotic and psychotropic substances, weighing about 5.280 kg.
In a separate incident, Manipur Police intercepted a white Maruti A-Star car at Singjamei Chinga Makhong under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district. Upon inspection, ten soap cases containing suspected Heroin No. 4, weighing around 105.4 grams, were found concealed inside the vehicle. The car’s occupant, identified as Md. Azad Yumkhaibam, 32, of Irong Cheisaba, Irong Umang Khunou in Thoubal district, was arrested on the spot. The contraband along with the vehicle was seized.
Both cases are under investigation, police said.
