Union Minister of Education Dr. Surkanta Majumdar on Sunday virtually laid the foundation stone for the DA-JGUA Hostel at T Vaichong along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, Manipur. The ceremony was held in the presence of Minister of State for Education (Independent Charge) Jayant Chaudhary and Member of Parliament Alfred Kangam S Arthur.
The event marked a significant step towards improving access to education for students in remote areas of the district. N Shokhongam Baite, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kangpokpi, formally welcomed the Chief of T Vaichong, the contractor, and other officials in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Baite highlighted the importance of the DA-JGUA hostel project in enhancing educational opportunities. He stated that the hostel will provide residential facilities for students coming from distant villages, thereby reducing dropout rates caused by transportation and logistical challenges.
He also lauded the contribution of Thangminlen Kipgen, Chief of T Vaichong, for generously donating land for the project. Baite emphasized that such community-driven initiatives are vital for the development of education and for ensuring a better future for the region’s youth.
The foundation-laying event was attended by key district officials including Lamminlal Simte (SDO Champhai), Len Singsit (SDO Island), Paotinsei Kipgen (SDO Saitu-Gamphazol), ZEO, DLOs, and other dignitaries.
