Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, visited Pherzawl district on Thursday as part of his three-day tour of Manipur to review ongoing development projects and welfare schemes.
On arrival at the district headquarters, the Minister was warmly received by MLA Ngursanglur Sanate and Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS. He later chaired a meeting with district-level officers at the DC Conference Hall, where he was briefed on connectivity challenges, infrastructure gaps, and development priorities in health, education, and economic sectors.
Tamta urged officials to expedite pending projects and ensure timely implementation of government initiatives. During the event, two beneficiaries received PM Vishwakarma Certificates, while ten others were distributed plant nutrients under government welfare schemes. The Minister, accompanied by MLA Sanate and district officials, also interacted with local youths, children, and civil society representatives to hear their concerns.
Later in Parbung, Tamta was accorded a traditional welcome by residents. He inspected the Oxygen Generation Plant at the Community Health Centre and interacted with healthcare workers. Highlighting the importance of unity and fraternity for national development, the Minister announced that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 262-km double-lane highway connecting Churachandpur to Pherzawl via Parbung has been completed and feasibility checked.
He directed the District Magistrate to expedite the land acquisition process for the project and assured that all roads under PMGSY would soon be blacktopped. Another ten beneficiaries in Parbung also received plant nutrients under government schemes.
Tamta expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing the region’s development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving connectivity and infrastructure in Pherzawl district.
