The Lecturers’ Association Manipur (LAM), 2018 batch, has launched a statewide pen-down strike from July 21 to July 26, demanding immediate release of pending salaries and completion of their long-delayed regularisation process.
In a press briefing held on July 22, LAM leaders expressed deep frustration over what they termed as “repeated betrayals” by the government, despite official commitments made earlier. They highlighted that the state Cabinet had approved the regularisation of lecturers on January 4, 2022, followed by an official order from the Education Commissioner on January 8, 2022, stating that entitled pay and allowances would be applicable from April 1, 2023. However, even after more than a year, the process remains incomplete.
Recruited on a contractual basis in 2018 and formally appointed on November 25, 2019, many lecturers are still receiving contract wages — some of which have been unpaid for over eight months — causing severe financial distress.
LAM has warned that if no positive response is received by July 26, the agitation will be intensified. The association reiterated its demands for timely disbursal of salaries, completion of the regularisation process, and dignified treatment of educators.
