Aavya Khomdram, an 8-year-old from Manipur, has brought laurels to her state and the country by securing the 2nd runner-up position at the Asian Open Schools Invitational Swimming Championships 2025, held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The prestigious event took place on September 6 and 7 at the Assumption University Aquatic Centre, Suvarnabhumi Campus, with 149 young swimmers from 18 Asian nations competing.
Aavya delivered an extraordinary performance, bagging 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze, earning a total of 206 points to claim her spot among the best.
Daughter of Dr. Amarjit Khomdram and Bonny Khomdram of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Imphal, Aavya currently resides in Hyderabad, where she studies in Class 3 at Sanghamitra School, Telangana. She has been rigorously training for the past 4-5 years under the mentorship of renowned coach John Siddiqui at Zions Sportz Swimming Academy, Bowrampet.
Her remarkable achievement has been widely lauded as a testament to Manipur’s sporting spirit and India’s growing strength in international swimming.
