Constable (Late) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF) was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for “exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice in service of the nation” at an investiture ceremony on June 8, 2026. The gallantry award was received by his family.
Senior BJP leader and former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh paid tribute to the fallen soldier in a message on X, calling Chingakham “a brave son of Manipur” whose courage and dedication reflect the highest traditions of service and patriotism. Singh said the constable’s valour and unwavering devotion would continue to inspire future generations and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by security personnel in safeguarding the country.
The Vir Chakra recognises Deepak Chingakham’s extraordinary bravery and commitment to duty, and his sacrifice has been hailed as a source of pride for Manipur and the nation.
