Manipur’s Rishikanta Strike Gold At Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

Manipur weightlifters once again brought glory to the nation at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, with Chanambam Rishikanta Singh clinching gold medals in their respective categories.

Rishikanta Singh secured the top podium finish in the men’s 60kg category, lifting a total of 271kg (120kg snatch and 151kg clean and jerk).

Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh congratulated Rishikanta via X, praising his dedication and hard work. “Your victory has once again proven the extraordinary sporting spirit of Manipur. I wish you even greater success in the days ahead,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu bagged gold in the women’s 48kg category with a combined lift of 193kg on Monday.

Extending his greetings, the Governor of Manipur hailed Chanu’s performance in an X post, saying, “Mirabai Chanu continues to be one of the shining prides of Manipur, inspiring countless youths with her dedication and excellence. Her record-setting performance has brought immense glory to the nation.”
