Agartala, August 02, 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal drug cultivation and trafficking, Tripura Police carried out two successful operations in separate locations resulting in the destruction of over one lakh marijuana plants and the seizure of a large cache of dried cannabis.
In the first operation, acting on a tip-off, personnel from the Bishalgarh Police Station launched an extensive anti-drug drive in the Gajaria area under Bishalgarh police station. The operation conducted on the southern banks of the Bijoy River in Gajaria Gram Panchayat led to the destruction of approximately 1.2 lakh marijuana plants.
The drive was led by Officer-in-Charge Bijoy Das with support from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). A police officer involved in the operation said, “Based on confidential information received earlier today, we identified illegal cannabis cultivation in the area and swiftly took action. Such operations will continue to root out drug cultivation in the region.”
In a separate but equally significant operation, Sidhai Police Station staff conducted a raid in the Mantala Uttar Para area under Mohanpur assembly constituency following intelligence input about narcotics being stored in a residence. During the late-night raid, police seized approximately 88 kilograms of dried marijuana packed inside a large drum.
However, the owner of the house managed to escape before being apprehended. Authorities have launched a manhunt to trace the individual.
“These continuous efforts are part of Tripura Police’s commitment to eradicating drug-related activities from the state. We urge the public to come forward with any information that could help us in our mission,” said an officer.
