In one of the largest coordinated operations in recent times, joint teams of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles/Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during extensive search operations conducted across multiple hill districts of Manipur from the midnight of July 3 to the morning of July 4.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of concealed warlike materials, simultaneous operations were launched in interior and suspected areas of Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts. The operations led to the recovery of 203 weapons and various types of ammunition and explosives.
The cache includes 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK-series rifles, 26 SLRs, 2 sniper rifles, 3 carbines, 17 .303 rifles, 2 51mm mortars, 2 MA assault rifles, 3 M79 grenade launchers, and several other firearms including pistols, single bore guns, and country-made weapons. Among the explosives recovered were 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 10 grenades, and 2 lathode grenades, along with various types of ammunition.
The successful intelligence-based operations mark a major milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Manipur Police and security forces to restore peace and normalcy in the region. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
The Manipur Police have urged the public to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room. Senior police officials continue to coordinate closely with all security stakeholders to carry out sustained and focused operations aimed at securing the state.
