Agartala, January 13, 2026: The Mizo Convention Youth Wing (MCYW), Jampui Hills, has announced a community-led cleanliness campaign titled “Clean Jampui Hills”, set to commence on January 18. The initiative seeks to safeguard the region’s pristine environment and uphold its cultural values amid rising tourist inflow.
Jampui Hills, the highest hill range in Tripura’s North District, is celebrated for its scenic beauty, temperate climate, and the rich heritage of the Lushai and Mizo tribes. Often described as one of the cleanest regions in the state, the area has become a popular destination for trekking, sunrise and sunset views, and cultural tourism.
In a press statement, MCYW President Lalduhsanga Thangluah and General Secretary Vanrokima Royte said the campaign was prompted by mounting environmental and social concerns linked to tourism. They noted that plastic bottles, disposable plates and other litter have increasingly been found along roadsides, gardens and public spaces, undermining Jampui Hills’ reputation for cleanliness. The youth leaders further pointed out that loud music from vehicles and tourist gatherings has disrupted church services and disturbed residents, particularly the elderly and the sick. They also raised alarm over the open consumption of alcohol and intoxicants in public areas, warning that such behaviour compromises community safety and violates the cultural values of the local population.
Through the Clean Jampui Hills programme, MCYW aims to foster responsible tourism, mobilize community participation, and preserve the tranquillity that defines the hill range.
The organisation has urged residents, visitors, and well-wishers to extend their support, expressing confidence that collective responsibility will help maintain Jampui Hills as a symbol of natural beauty, cultural pride, and environmental discipline.
