Teseng M Sangma, an official with the Meghalaya Agriculture Department, went missing after being swept away by the swollen Ganol River in West Garo Hills district on Sunday, police reported.
The incident occurred at Sella Wari, where Sangma was picnicking with his family. He was attempting to cross the river when strong currents carried him away. Sangma was posted in Ampati, South West Garo Hills, and was residing in staff quarters near Dolampong under the Araimile police station in Tura.
Rescue teams have launched a search operation to trace the missing officer.
