Shillong, April 6: The decomposed body of a woman who had been missing since March 20 was recovered from a stream near Nongrah village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on Monday, police said.
According to officials, the body was found stuffed inside a sack after local residents noticed it and alerted authorities. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the victim, a resident of Shillong originally from West Jaintia Hills, was identified by her family members at the scene.
The body has been sent to NEIGRIHMS hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
A local resident reported that he had heard someone dumping a “heavy object” near his house late last week but initially assumed it was garbage.
Police suspect foul play in the incident and have identified a suspect. Further investigation is underway, and officials said necessary steps are being taken to apprehend those involved.
