Shillong, Nove 14: The Meghalaya Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, on Friday approved several key decisions related to infrastructure, governance, and public administration.
The Cabinet approved acquiring an additional 35 acres at Tynring in the New Shillong Township to develop a corridor connecting the Administrative City and Knowledge City. The move will also facilitate the relocation of the Central Jail to New Shillong.
It approved an amendment to Rule 6(D) of the Meghalaya Ministerial District Establishment Service Rules, 2017, allowing 50% of Group D posts to be filled from Regular Casual Workers (RCWs), resolving earlier confusion caused by conflicting Office Memorandums issued in 1996 and 2017.
The Cabinet also approved amending the Meghalaya Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2006, allowing the state to raise its fiscal deficit ceiling from 3% to 3.5% of GSDP, in line with central government guidelines.
In the field of consumer justice, the Cabinet approved the reappointment of Justice Shivaji Pandey as President of the Meghalaya State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission for another four-year term. It also approved the appointment of Major Ynsambyntalang Nongsiej, Rupa Paul Choudhury, N. F. Kharshiing, and Bijoy A. Sangma as Members of the Commission. The Cabinet cleared service rules allowing the Commission to establish its own recruitment board.
These decisions are aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency, fiscal management, and public service delivery across Meghalaya.
