Christmas brought festive cheer to Meghalaya as communities across the state participated in midnight church services and vibrant carol processions. Streets were illuminated with decorative lights, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Church leaders emphasized the core message of the season. At the Catholic Cathedral’s Midnight Mass, Bishop Victor said Christ’s birth represented “the victory of light over darkness.” Pastor Anand Thapa of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church encouraged worshippers to carry the spirit of compassion and harmony into their everyday lives.

Crowds gathered for prayers and hymns, while processions through neighborhoods drew people into the celebratory spirit. Shillong’s decorative lights and the giant Christmas tree at Khyndailad junction attracted tourists, enhancing the city’s festive appeal.

Delhi visitor Rohan Mehta said, “The carols and lights make the city very welcoming. It feels special to be here now.” Mumbai tourist Maria Fernandes described the celebrations as “very warm and simple,” appreciating the festive decorations and atmosphere.
