Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the Summit for Rural Empowerment under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PM-JVM) on Friday. The event gathered policy-makers, self-help groups (SHGs), farmers, community leaders, and industry partners to promote inclusive development in tribal and rural areas.

The summit highlighted the role of over 55,000 women-led SHGs and 20,000 farmer groups actively contributing to grassroots entrepreneurship and self-reliance in the state. The Meghalaya government continues to strengthen agricultural resilience and improve input access for farmers through initiatives such as CM Assure and CM Farm+.

During the summit, ₹3.90 crore was handed over to 130 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) as part of efforts to support tribal enterprises. Additionally, important Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed with key institutions to enhance research, skill development, and entrepreneurship for VDVKs and rural communities.

The interventions under PM-JVM, led by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, aim to ensure collaborative action for the holistic development of Meghalaya’s tribal population.
