Shillong, Mar 9: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday condemned a physical assault on two girls from Manipur and Assam near Saket Court in Delhi, describing it as “racial bullying” that should not become the norm.

In a post on X, Sangma expressed anger over the incident and urged authorities to take strict action. “Angered by the repeated attacks on North East people in Mainland India. The physical attack on two of our people from Manipur and Assam near Saket Court, Delhi, is sickening. Racial bullying should not be accepted as the new normal, and we must act against it,” he wrote.

The assault occurred on Sunday evening when the girls were walking in a nearby park with friends and were reportedly subjected to inappropriate remarks by a group of men. When one of the girls objected, the situation escalated into a physical attack. The injured victim was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where preliminary reports confirmed minor injuries.

Delhi Police have contacted the victims and launched an investigation.

This incident comes after a similar case on February 20 in Malviya Nagar, where three women from Arunachal Pradesh faced racial abuse and criminal intimidation. The accused were arrested and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Police had invoked the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, with the investigation led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police under senior supervision.
