Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday urged residents of Assam and Meghalaya to exercise restraint following a violent clash along the border that left one person dead and several others injured.
Describing the incident in West Karbi Anglong district, Assam, as “unfortunate,” Sangma said disputes along the Assam-Meghalaya border have historically caused tension between the neighbouring states.
Currently on a two-day visit to Manipur, the Meghalaya CM emphasized that dialogue and mutual understanding are crucial to maintaining peace and harmony in the border areas.
The clash on Thursday reportedly erupted over paddy harvesting, resulting in the fatality and multiple injuries.
