Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Launches City Beautification Drive At Mawlai

Shillong, Dec 18: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday launched the City Beautification Drive at Mawlai Maroh, aimed at making Shillong cleaner, greener, safer, and more beautiful. Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P Ahammad and Director of Urban Affairs and CEO of Shillong Municipal Board P K Boro were also present.

During the launch, the Chief Minister highlighted the continuation of government efforts through the Urban Affairs department and local municipalities, with active community participation. He announced the inauguration of the CCTV system, stating that out of 45 localities selected in the first phase, 25 have been completed and the remaining 20 will be installed soon. He added that street lights and CCTV installations will continue in subsequent phases.

Emphasizing collaboration between the government and communities, Conrad K Sangma said even small development initiatives can bring significant changes. He engaged with local headmen, who raised issues such as street lights, parking spaces, footpaths, water supply, and clogged drains.

The Chief Minister also distributed Beautification Grants to localities, inaugurated the CCTV system at Mawlai Maroh, and visited Mawlai Iewrynghep as part of the drive.
